Sportline Hopes to Interest Youth to Get Fit By Engaging Them with Technology
Fitness Monitors and other equipment donated to Good Sports
January xx, 2011 – It’s common for today’s youth to be engaged with video games, computers and i-Phones. Well one brand leader in personal fitness monitors wants children to become more tech savvy when it comes to monitoring their own physical activity,
Sportline has donated heart rate monitors, pedometers and other fitness equipment to Good Sports, a Boston based non profit organization, committed to increasing youth participation in sports, fitness, and recreational programs.
More than 1,300 products worth an estimated $50,000 will be distributed to Good Sports’ community organizations serving disadvantaged youth. In partnership with Community Health Centers, Good Sports provides necessary fitness equipment to children being treated in healthy weight, diabetes, or other obesity related medical programs.
“Today one third of children in America are considered obese or overweight,” said Brian Anderson, president of EB Sport Group and the Sportline brand. “Many kids are more enticed by video games than by being physically active. We want to change that and instill motivation and bring greater enjoyment to fitness. If they understand how to self monitor their physical activity, learn about heart rates and calories burned they are more likely to be engaged.”
In addition to heart rate monitors and pedometers, EB Sport Group also donated hula hoops, stretching (yoga?) mats, fitness balls, speed ropes, body balls, water bottle holders and sport packs.
“We are grateful to EB Sport Group for their generous donation because their products will benefit our Youth Sports and Fitness Program and support our mission to lay the foundation for healthy, active lifestyles,” said Melissa Harper, Chief Executive Officer or Christy Pugh Keswick- Chief Operating Office
